Two hands resting on the notes of a copper VeChi Sound handpan

Hear the scale before you fall for it

Thirty scales you can play right here. Then a free call, a visit, or a sound clip of the exact instrument before you pay.

Buying a handpan online is mostly guesswork. Every instrument sounds different, even two of the same scale from the same maker. Everything in stock has been played by me. Anything ordered is checked and recorded by me before it ships.

My own line, VeChi Sound Handpans, is built with mrpans. Alongside it I carry a small group of makers I trust, so you can compare voices side by side in one room.

Find your scale

Four questions, then a suggestion or two

What do you want it to feel like?
Is this your first instrument?
Which voice?
How many notes?

Tap play to hear a scale. Tap the notes to play it yourself. Switch between sizes with the small buttons. Sound is synthesised here, real steel sounds warmer. On a phone, turn silent mode off.

A name like 10+3 means ten notes on top and three tuned into the bottom shell: extra low or high notes without a bigger instrument. Bottom layouts shown here are typical. The exact layout of any instrument I have, I confirm on request.

You do not go home with just a drum

  • A fitted case.
  • A care package, with the printed VeChi Sound care guide.
  • A 30-minute first touch lesson, online or at the studio, so the first week goes well.
  • Tuned to 432 Hz or 440 Hz, you decide when you order.

Good to know before you buy

  • Prices depend on maker, size and number of notes. I tell you the price before you decide anything.
  • You hear a clip of the actual instrument before you pay. If it is in stock, you can come and play it in Utrecht.
  • Pay by bank transfer or iDEAL after you have heard it. Shipping within Europe, or pick up in Utrecht.
  • Not sure? Rent a D Kurd for €100 per two weeks. One month of rent comes off the price if you buy.
